What is Wikiary.net?

Wikiary.net is, essentially, a literary wiki!

Have you ever wanted to see what direction someone else might take a story or characters you started? Or have you ever had a great plot idea, but couldn’t figure out exactly how to get going? Wikiary.net allows creative minds the opportunity to make new adventures together.

After becoming a member of Wikiary.net, you will be able to create new works, edit existing works, or just give someone else a great plot idea. Members can also comment on existing works, flesh out existing characters, edit grammar, or write a new chapter to an existing story. In addition to stories, Wikiary.net also lets authors work on plays, poetry, screenplays, or create entire universes in the fantasy and scifi genres!

To help with collaborating on stories, Wikiary.net also has a social network built right into the site. This allows users with similar interests to easily become acquainted and work on stories together. At Wikiary.net your story is just beginning!

Using Wikiary.net

There are four main components to Wikiary.net: Reading, Creating, Editing, and Community. Reading, just as the name suggests, is reading an existing story made by a member of our Community. Creating new stories is a good way to let out your creative side and give the other members something new to read. Editing lets you add to an existing story or simply correct typos if that's your thing. Our Community allows you to easily find other members that share your interests. Below is a brief tutorial on all four, but more extensive tutorials can be found in our Help Section.

Reading

Reading is as simple as choosing your desired type of literary work from the Writing area and then selecting the work from the list on the page that follows. Wikiary.net allows users to select stories, screenplays, plays, or poetry for their reading pleasure. Users can also search for a particular work with keywords. Just type what you are looking for in the search box and a list of works matching your search will appear. If the story you are looking for isn't found or hasn't been created yet, feel free to start it!

Creating

Are you ready to start your story, book, screenplay, play, or poem? Creating with Wikiary.net is easy! To begin, simply choose a category from the Writing area on the left sidebar. This will bring you to that area's page or genre listing. After choosing your desired genre, you will find an input box. Create a title for your story, plot idea, or other work by typing it in the input box and then click the "Create" button. The editing screen will appear. Choose the correct template for your work from the drop down menu and click the "Insert Template" button. Follow the instructions on the template and begin typing your new work. After you have completed, click save at the bottom and your work will be available for the Community to see. You can then return to your work for future edits by typing its name in the search box or returning to its listing on the genres page.

Editing

Editing is what makes Wikiary.net unique! Collaborating on stories and other literary works is the backbone of Wikiary.net. If you are reading a story written by another Community member and you don't like how it ended, you have the power to change it. Want to introduce a new character into an existing story? No problem; you can. Once you've found the story or work you'd like to contribute to, press the "Edit" button and you can shape the story the way you see fit.

Community

Once you've created an account with Wikiary.net, you're automatically included in our Community! Within Wikiary.net's Community you can send and receive friend requests, gifts, awards, and private messages. You can also post your quick thoughts for the world to see or post board-to-board with other Community members. You can even earn points based on your activity interacting with the Community and Wikiary.net. Will you be our Top User this week? To get started click on "Your Profile" which can be found under the Community section on the left sidebar.
